Rose discusses that the builders can bound your book in lots of 50 at $1.05 per. She has heard complaints that your books "Virgilia and Crowning Hour" should have been bound in gold. Asks what he thought of "The Purpose of Poetry". Discusses again about binding the books. and give the mooney to the Red Cross. Some day i will publish my new poems. Wants Mr. M to write a few words about"Cleomenes".

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
